The Center for Biomedical Imaging (CBI) at the Medical University of South Carolina invites applications for 2 Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions in the areas of Nanoparticle Synthesis, Bioconjugate Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Molecular Imaging. The CBI has an emphasis on clinical translation, so the selected candidates will have the opportunity to translate their work, which may include learning about cutting-edge imaging modalities, conducting pre-clinical in vivo imaging and potentially gaining experience in filing exploratory Investigational New Drug (eIND) applications through the FDA.

The first postdoctoral candidate should be a chemist or physical chemist with some experience in synthesis of metallic nanoparticles, as well as their surface functionalization. He/She should be familiar with classical characterization techniques, such as UV-visible sprctroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. He/She should be interested in the application of inorganic metal nanoparticles in drug delivery and the investigation of platform imaging contrast agents for molecular imaging and high-throughput precise surgery of cells and
tissues (plasmonic nanoparticles).

The second postdoctoral candidate should be a molecular or cell biologist, with knowledge of cell surface receptor biology and imaging, cancer signaling pathways and tumor microenvironment. Experience with murine models of cancer development is a plus.

The successful new hires will be highly self-motivated and creative. It is imperative that the candidates be comfortable interacting with scientists whose backgrounds are extremely diverse, in order to work effectively in our multidisciplinary team. Key factors in the success of these jobs include: innovative thinking skills, high levels of attentiveness, ability to collaborate closely with others and willingness to learn. Strong backgrounds either in cancer biology, in vitro and in vivo imaging or colloidal chemistry are mandatory.

Applicants should email CVs, together with their research experience and publication lists to Dr. Ann-Marie Broome at broomea@musc.edu. Please also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent.
