Candidates are sought for an NIH-funded postdoctoral research position in the lab of Dr. Andrew M. Smith in the UIUC Department of Bioengineering. The Smith Lab uses nanotechnology and single-molecule imaging to study cellular signaling pathways and drug delivery mechanisms. The successful candidate will engineer a new generation of nanocrystals for optical sensing, explore the fundamental physics of these materials, and use them in single-molecule imaging applications. He or she will join an interdisciplinary group that incorporates methodology from nanotechnology, inorganic chemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, and optical microscopy.
Highly motivated individuals with excellent communication skills and a Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in nanomaterials synthesis and characterization, polymer/organic synthesis, optical spectroscopy, and optical microscopy.
