job description
Postdoctoral Researcher
Interfacial Lipid Bilayer Assembly
(12 Month Contract)
The National Biophotonics & Imaging Platform Ireland (NBIPI) provides an integrated national access and training infrastructure in research, education, technology development and industry collaboration for Ireland’s investment in Biophotonics and Bioimaging. Under the HEA Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions (PRTLI IV), the Platform was recently awarded €30 million in research funding.
The NBIPI Group is located within the National Centre for Sensor Research (NCSR; www.ncsr.ie) at Dublin City University.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the National Biophotonics and Bioimaging Platform and School of Chemical Sciences, Dublin City University, Ireland.
The successful candidate will work on a project funded under the SFI Investigator Research Programme involving the preparation and study of microcavity array supported phosopholipid bilayers and whole cells. These arrays will be studied using confocal fluorescence, fluorescence lifetime imaging, Raman microscopy and AFM. He/she will work within an interdisciplinary research team and will focus on the development of liposomes and proteoliposomes and the preparation of supported lipid bilayers on gold and polymeric nanoarrays for study of membrane proteins protein diffusion by fluorescence correlation spectroscopy.
Person specification:
We seek a qualified candidate with a Ph.D. in chemistry, biophysics or a related area with a proven track record of accomplishment in liposome and/or proteoliposome preparation and in preparation and study of supported lipid membrane assembly and interfacial modification. Candidates who combine these skills with interfacial spectroscopy particularly fluorescence, and/or Raman Microscopy are particularly sought.
The position is available immediately initially for a year with the possibility of extension to further year.
