美国劳伦斯伯克利国家实验室博士后职位
job description
Geological Postdoctoral Researcher – Uranium – 74124
Organization: ES-Earth Sciences
Bringing Science Solution to the World!
The Earth Science Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher, who will focus on understanding the impacts iron oxide transformation on the speciation and mobility of uranium. A particular emphasis is placed on understanding the mechanistic details of the pathways which result in incorporation of uranium into iron oxide crystal structures or their analogs and the long-term stability of uranium within those structures. Activities will include laboratory studies, detailed spectroscopic analysis, and some field activities.
As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will:
• Design and conduct detailed laboratory experiments using trace metals under controlled redox conditions
• Experience with the acquisition and interpretation with synchrotron based (micro) spectroscopies including EXAFS/XANES/NEXAFS.
• Need to understand the common mineral crystal structures and the transformation of iron oxides
• Need to understand the metal redox chemistry and metal-organic complexation chemistry
• Work effectively with scientists of different disciplinary backgrounds and serve as a communication nexus.
• Communicate regularly and work with other researchers on this project in order to facilitate progress toward program goals.
• Work carefully but efficiently in order to meet project goals in a timely manner
• Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals.
• Provide presentation of research results to internal groups and at large national and international meetings
• Maintain detailed, well-organized laboratory/experimental notebooks and data files.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in good order.
• Purchase laboratory supplies as needed.
Qualifications:
• A recent Ph.D in Earth Science, Soil Science, Environmental Chemistry, or closely related field
• Knowledge of mineral chemistry and metal redox chemistry
• Experience with synchrotron based (micro) spectroscopies
• Basic laboratory experience
• Field experience
*Notes: *This is a 1-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and on-going operational needs.
