job description

We are looking for

A major research theme in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry and Colloid Science is the study of hydrogels, formed by self-assembling proteins or polymers. So far, self-assembly is performed mostly under thermodynamic control. This project aims to explore new territory by using out-of-equilibrium self-assembly approaches as a strategy for the design of hydrogels. Focus is on understanding the steps of the kinetically-controlled self-assembly process and on relating this to the properties of the resulting hydrogels. To achieve this, we will combine scattering techniques, rheology, rheo-optics, and microscopy. Although the focus is on experiments, the project may also involve the development of a theoretical model or simulations. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the Systems Chemistry group (Otto) in Groningen. Properly qualified candidates (see below) are kindly invited to apply.

Requirements

PhD degree in soft matter science or physical chemistry, with a strong affinity for experimental research.
