Postdoctoral Scientists – Cell Division

The Paterson Institute is a leading cancer centre of excellence core-funded by
Cancer Research UK and is an Institute of The University of Manchester.

A one year position is available in the laboratory of Professor I. M. Hagan to study how fission yeast cells control entry to mitosis and how these controls are altered to accommodate changes in the environment. The project will focus upon the regulation of mitotic progression by polo kinase. Mass spectrometric analysis of the entire phospho-proteome will identify phosphorylation sites on target molecules whose phosphorylation is dependent upon polo kinase. Subsequent biochemical/genetic and cell biological approaches will characterise key target molecules in order to understand the control of cell cycle progression by polo kinase. The successful applicants should have a PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, genetics or molecular biology and a background in biochemistry and/or cell biology.
