Fixed Term Contract for 24 months
A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Physics, University of Warwick, under the supervision of Dr David Quigley.
You will join the molecular simulation group at Warwick to undertake research into the crystallisation of model organic solids. This research is directed towards an understanding of crystallisation in organic environments, and in particular, the formation of cholesterol crystals. During this two-year position, proof-of-concept studies will be undertaken based on computation of nucleation rates for simple models of organic molecules, using path sampling, long timescale molecular dynamics and/or kinetic Monte-Carlo approaches. The work will ultimately link to other research within the group, where we are developing coarse-grained models for capturing the phase behaviour of organic solids.
You will be expected to evaluate existing methods for computing the kinetics of rare events in atomic simulations, and to implement one or more of these within a new or existing code for simulating model organic molecules. This will involve scientific programming, optimisation of high performance computing codes, and validation/analysis of data for publication in scientific journals and presentation at conferences.
You will also be expected to play an active role within the theoretical physics group and within the cross-department interdisciplinary molecular simulation group at Warwick, attending seminars, assisting with supervision of graduate students and organising research events and visits.
You are expected to have experience in performing and analysing molecular dynamics and/or Monte Carlo simulations, with a strong preference for experience of developing simulation software. An interest in developing/adapting new techniques is highly desirable, as is experience of operating in a Unix/Linux-based computational research environment. If you have a background in computational statistical mechanics your application is strongly encouraged.
You must be capable of working within a broader research team, demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills, and maintaining a current knowledge of the simulation literature. The ability to communicate research to an interdisciplinary audience will also be required.
