Description

QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in applied mathematics, engineering, or related discipline, and experience in mathematical optimisation techniques for applied problems. OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: With projected changes to the power generation portfolio, accounting for stochastic information in power system models, both long term and short term, becomes of increasing importance. The successful candidate will be based in MACSI group at the University of Limerick, and will be responsible for liaising between MACSI and the engineering and economics partners within the Strategic Research Cluster “Sustainable Electrical Energy Systems”. He/she will take responsibility for mathematical modelling tasks of mutual interest to MACSI and SRC partners, with a particular focus on stochastic optimisation problems such as (i) model comparisons for unit commitment algorithms used by SRC partners, (ii) algorithm improvement and implementation for existing unit commitment models, (iii) development of enhanced resolution stochastic optimisation tools. Essential: • PhD in relevant area (applied mathematics, engineering, or related discipline) • Strong analytical and computational skills. • Experience of mathematical modeling and optimization techniques for applied problems. • Record of publication in international journals Desirable: • Experience of postdoctoral research in a relevant area. • Experience of collaboration with experimentalists and/or industry. • Experience in writing successful research funding applications • Good interpersonal and project management skills
