Description

QUALIFICATIONS: PhD (viva voce completed and PhD thesis submitted) in physics or electrochemistry. OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Postdoctoral Fellowship on advanced physical characterization and modelling of next-generation nanomaterials for advanced lithium-ion batteries. DESCRIPTION: The position involves advanced physical characterization and modelling of next-generation nanomaterials for advanced lithium-ion batteries. The project will combine experimental measurements and modelling. It will involve new approaches to advanced in-situ monitoring of physical characteristics of electrode materials using electrochemical atomic force microscopy, and simultaneous electrochemical and in-situ stress measurements. This will be complemented by advanced numerical simulation and by characterization using state-of-the-art high resolution electron microscopy and spectroscopy techniques. A strong background in physics or electrochemistry is essential. It is essential that applicants have completed their viva voce and submitted their final PhD thesis. Previous experience in numerical modelling of solids on the nano-scale is also essential. Experience in characterization of material properties and demonstrated ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team on a cutting-edge topic is very desirable. It is also desirable that the candidate be a strongly motivated, adaptable and self-starting. The project is funded by Science Foundation Ireland.
