Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Training Fellow in Computational & Systems Biology. The successful candidate will join a team working in the area of biomathematical modelling and non-linear signal processing.

The post holder will be responsible for the development of mathematical models of biological pattern formation, especially in relation to calcium signalling in plants; the analysis of experimental data; and software development.

The John Innes Centre is a world-class Institute and is looking to appoint an exceptional candidate who has, or expects to soon receive a PhD in theoretical physics, applied mathematics, computational biology, or a related subject. We will be providing the job-holder with opportunities to develop their technical and transferable skills during this assignment, by way of training programmes, coaching and mentoring. Candidates who have up to three years postdoctoral experience will be appointed under the Postdoctoral Training Fellowship scheme http://www.jic.ac.uk/corporate/opportunities/PDTF.html.

Essential skills required are enthusiasm for research, self-motivation and the ability to work as part of a team towards shared goals. A strong background in mathematics is required. The successful applicant will ideally have excellent programming skills, a good grasp of statistics and some previous experience/knowledge of biological modelling. An interest in Bayesian methods, non-linear systems, and signal processing is desirable.

Salary on appointment will be within the range £26,600 to £27,800 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
