英国伯明翰大学代谢组学研究员岗位
Research Fellow in Metabolomics
University of Birmingham - School of Biosciences
Fixed term for 12 months
Salary from £27,428 to £37,990 a year.
Funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research and in collaboration with scientists at Mote Marine Laboratory in Florida, an exciting project has been initiated to study the biological effects of acoustic stress on bottlenose dolphin. The overall aim of this research project is to investigate whether sounds consistent with naval sonars can cause biological effects on the reproductive potential, immune function and endocrine system of bottlenose dolphins. At the University of Birmingham we will apply state-of-the-art metabolomics approaches to measure the biochemical stress responses of the dolphins.
We seek to recruit an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to develop and implement targeted LC-MS/MS analyses of steroids and steroid-like metabolites in serum samples, and to conduct non-targeted direct infusion metabolomics to discover wider biochemical changes. The appointee will use a combination of ultra-high resolution FT-ICR mass spectrometry and (UP)LC-MS/MS triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. They will conduct extensive data analyses to reveal the biochemical pathways disrupted by acoustic stress. The appointee will work in a highly multi-disciplinary environment in a world-class metabolomics laboratory. Applicants should hold a PhD in (bio)analytical chemistry and have extensive experience in small molecule liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.
World class research facilities exist at Birmingham for this research project as evidenced by the NERC Biomolecular Analysis Facility (NBAF) for Metabolomics (http://www.biosciences-labs.bham.ac.uk/NBAF-Birmingham). Further details are provided in the supporting information.
