job description
A full-time postdoctoral position in physiological plant ecology at the Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences, University of Tartu. Duration: 2-3 years. The researcher will carry out structure-function studies of plant tissues involved in water transport in liquid (roots, xylem, leaf venation network, mesophyll) and gaseous phases (stomata) in relation to hydraulic efficiency and leaf gas exchange.
Description
A full-time postdoctoral position in physiological plant ecology at the Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences, University of Tartu. The post-doctoral research grant will be awarded by the Estonian Science Foundation to an applicant as a result of an open international competition for the purpose of implementation of a particular research project, which includes the remuneration of the post-doctoral researcher (incl. taxes payable thereon), research costs, a one-time relocation support and overhead. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join our research group (plant ecophysiology). We are interested in structure-function studies of plant tissues involved in water transport in liquid (roots, xylem, leaf venation network, mesophyll) and gaseous phases (stomata) in relation to hydraulic efficiency and leaf gas exchange. Qualification: successful candidates should have received a Ph.D. degree in plant physiological ecology, anatomy, structural biology, biophysics, or related discipline not earlier than 2007. Candidates should have excellent experimental skills in scanning electron (SEM) and light microscopy (LM) of plant material. Applicants with basic knowledge in the field of both plant hydraulics and statistical/quantitative methods are preferred. Good writing and oral communication skills are essential. Procedure to apply: please send your CV, including contact information and list of publications, a summary of research interests, and a list of your experimental expertise to Dr. Arne Sellin. Selected candidate will develop a research project to be submitted to the Estonian Science Foundation, deadline 25 January 2012 (details of the procedure are available at http://www.etf.ee/public/files/ ERMOS_3_EN.pdf). For primary application please submit: CV, including contact information and list of publications, a summary of research interests, and a list of your experimental expertise. Person to contact: Arne Sellin Email address: arne.sellin@ut.ee Surface mail address: Inst. of Ecology and Earth Sciences, University of Tartu, Lai 40, 51005 Tartu, Estonia
