Description

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Mathematics, tenable from 2 April 2012 (or a date to be agreed) for 17 months.
The aim of this EPSRC-funded project is to explore the possibility of generating a periodic orbit basis for fluid turbulence. One of the major objectives will be to develop numerical techniques to identify the signatures of periodic motions within a general turbulent flow.
You should have a PhD in fluid mechanics - ideally in some aspect of hydrodynamic instability or turbulence modelling - and have experience using numerical techniques - ideally spectral methods - to tackle the Navier-Stokes equations. The Department of Mathematics is one of the leading centres for research and teaching in mathematical sciences in the UK, and offers a stimulating and friendly environment with first-rate facilities.
