Postdoctoral Researcher – (Cambridge, UK)

£27,428 – £35,788 pa
This post is available until 31 December 2014 in the first instance with the possibility of extension until December 2016.
A position is available for a postdoctoral research associate to work in the laboratory of Dr Jenny Gallop on the regulation of actin polymerization at membranes using an innovative reconstitution assay (Science 329: 1341, 2010). The lab fuses biophysical and biochemical methodologies with cell biological questions, aiming to reconstitute the cell biological processes important for cell shape and movement in vitro and test resulting mechanistic models in vivo within native developmental contexts. The project, which is funded by the European Research Council, will use biochemical fractionation approaches and advanced microscopy to identify the proteins necessary for making filopodia.
The successful candidate is expected to have, or obtain shortly, a PhD in life or physical sciences and a first author publication in an international journal. In addition they will have the ability to communicate well with colleagues from a range of disciplines. The project demands a high level of experimental skill, so candidates who have developed expertise in a difficult technique during their previous training will have an advantage.
Specific experience in microscopy, protein purification, or in vitro assays will be beneficial and the project would particularly suit someone coming from a background in purified proteins seeking to explore a more complex level of cellular organization.
