POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW
(Molecular Cell Biology/Translational Research)

The SINGAPORE EYE RESEARCH INSTITUTE (SERI) serves as Singapore’s national research institute for ophthalmic and vision research. SERI functions as the research arm of the various clinical ophthalmic centres in Singapore including the Singapore National Eye Centre, the National University Health Systems (NUHS), Tan Tock Seng Hospital etc, and further works in collaboration with Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and various biomedical research institutions, as well as major eye centres and research institutes throughout the world.
SERI is seeking a molecular cell biologist with experience in retinal animal model/retinal imaging. The candidate is expected to oversee research conducted in a molecular biology/ocular imaging laboratory dedicated to the characterization and pathogenesis/translational of diabetic retinopathy.

Description
A position to enhance and advance professional development of the scientist; help conduct a research program within the area of active research.

Responsibilities
1. Conduct active lab research on an independent basis in conjunction with the staff scientists. Design and evaluate experiments; develop new ideas that promote current research; prepare and publish scientific manuscripts together with the Principal Investigator; bring new expertise to the research program
2. Support and guide grant activities, supervise technical staff; administer grant funds and write progress reports for active grants
3. Institute Functions; help further goals of the Institute; serve on committees; attend PI meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the PI and Institute.

Requirements
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree, a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training, a solid track record of research accomplishment and potential for developing an independent research program. Ability to undertake independent research with little or no supervision is required. In addition experience in genomics, proteomics and molecular techniques and proteins such as DNA cloning, analytical work with antibodies, Muller cell/RPE culture and retinal imaging would be a plus.
The successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Past experience in writing grant/proposal application is plus.
