job description

The Broad Institute seeks a POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE IN COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY, under the Genome Biology Program (Genome Regulation sub-division), to support program staff in performing computational analysis of genome scale Epigenomic data. This is a unique opportunity to make key contributions in the development of the epigenomics initiative. Will develop and support data processing and analysis tools, maintain data sets and databases, integrate tools and databases into existing high-throughput pipelines, and facilitate the display of analysis results.

Many of the samples for epigenome profiling will be generated through the Meissner lab at Harvard and the postdoctoral associate would work closely with members of the lab in data analysis and interpretation. Our group has established powerful tools and protocols for epigenome profiling (Meissner et al. 2008 Nature, Mikkelsen et al. 2008 Nature, Bock et al. 2010 Nature Biotechnology, Bock et al. 2011 Cell). We use these methods in the context of Broad Institute’s Epigenome Program, aiming to complement the human genome sequence with a map of the human epigenome with a particular focus on developmental and stem cell biology. Furthermore, we are involved in several clinical projects that search for disease-causing defects in the human epigenome. Such defects play a key role in cancer, and it has been proposed that they might contribute to mental disorders as well as aging.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties will include performing timely data processing; supporting researchers in performing computational analysis of epigenomic data; transferring data to external collaborators and data repositories; working with researchers to define and implement analysis tools and algorithms; maintaining, supporting, and documenting shared tools, code base, and data sets; preparing results of data analysis for presentation in various contexts including group meetings, funding agency reports, and journal publications; interacting with computational biologists at the Broad’s sequencing platform; and other tasks as requested. The research opportunities of this position will concentrate on, but are not limited to, developing and utilizing computational methods for finding patterns in epigenomic data to address questions in stem cell biology, epigenetic components of complex disease and human genome annotation, and in support of next-generation sequencing technology development.
