This role will investigate the mechanisms of mycobacterium infection induced cell death. Cell death pathways are central to the interaction between pathogenic mycobacteria and host macrophages. The inhibition of cell death of infected host cells is a well-documented, but poorly understood, action of pathogenic mycobacteria. The research will focus on: i) molecular mechanisms of infection-induced cell death, and ii) the effects of cell death on immunity. The successful candidate is expected to be knowledgeable of standard molecular, cellular biology, and immunology techniques.
The applicant must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent. Previous research experience involving cell death mechanisms is a plus.
