The Managers of the Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Fund invite applications within the general fields of:
Pure Mathematics

Extreme Universe (to be held in the Department of Physics, Dept. of Applied Mathematics & Theoretical Physics, or the Institute of Astronomy)
Climate Science (Department of Applied Mathematics & Theoretical Physics, Chemistry or Earth Sciences)
Energy, Sustainability and Materials (Department of Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science & Metallurgy).
All Fellowships are to be held from 1 October 2012 or otherwise by negotiation. Fellowships are available for between two and three years and provide an opportunity for independent research, although the holders will usually work in close collaboration with established research groups.
In accordance with Dr Smith’s will, candidature is limited to candidates who have completed their PhD degree, or equivalent, within the last three years at any university but normally excluding Cambridge and Harvard.
In addition to salary, Fellows receive a research allowance of £10,000 pa.
