Job Description

· Use your ecological modelling skills to enhance food security
· Play a critical role in the HarvestChoice project
· Join CSIRO, work with leading scientists and contribute to international, multi-agency collaborations.

This position will be based at CSIRO Ecosystem Sciences in Canberra working in collaboration with the University of Minnesota (including a requirement to spend some time in Minnesota working closely with HarvestChoice researchers). The role is for an ecological modeller with a strong interest in spatially explicit models for the simulation of agricultural
pest population dynamics and diseases across space and time and at multiple spatial scales.

Specifically you will:
· Develop ecological models to inform economic estimates of pest risk
· Contribute to the international, multi-agency Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ‘HarvestChoice’ project
· Co-author journal manuscripts
· Contribute to project reports and web-based project products
· Liaise with clients to determine their needs and take personal responsibility for client satisfaction.

Location: Canberra, ACT
Salary: $73K - $82K plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: 2 years full-time

To be successful you will have:
· PhD in ecological based research with a significant mathematical modelling component
· Evidence of experience in developing dynamic spatially explicit models, preferably dealing with agricultural
pests and/or disease population dynamics
· Evidence of the potential to think in abstract or lateral terms about research objectives, conceptualizing,
creating hypotheses and carrying out investigations requiring originality, creativity and innovation
· Evidence of being able to complete projects within timelines including completing analysis and drafting
manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals and final reports within a team environment.
