We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic and skilled in vivo systems neuroscientist to join the laboratory of Dr Tony Pickering (http://www.bris.ac.uk/phys-pharm/people/person/36578/). You will be part of a group using novel viral vector and optogenetic approaches to selectively manipulate subsets of pontine noradrenergic neurones.
The postdoctoral position is funded by the Wellcome Trust for 3 years as part of a collaborative program of research work. The experiments will involve both in vivo electrophysiology using EMG and extracellular single-unit recordings as well as behavioural testing. These studies will be done in collaboration with Dr Hidemasa Furue (NIPS, Japan) and Professor Bridget Lumb (Bristol). Training will be provided but expertise in some of these methodologies and a background in pain science will be an advantage. You should have a PhD or MD by research (awarded or imminent).
If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research experience.
