job description

Postdoctoral Research Assistant
Starting salary: £29,099 (point 1 on grade 7 scale)
Fixed term post for up to 4 years
Applications are invited for a Postdoc Research Assistant to join the Cerebral Cortical Development Group of Prof Zoltán Molnár on a collaborative research project with Dr Antonio Velayos-Baeza and Prof Anthony Monaco entitled, ‘The Role of the KIAA0319 Protein in Neurodevelopment’. Genetic approaches have revealed the association of the KIAA0319 gene with developmental dyslexia (reading disability). Initial results have shown that this protein is involved in cerebral cortical neuronal migration. This research project will investigate the molecular mechanisms and the cellular/biological pathways in which the KIAA0319 protein is involved in brain development. This post is funded by The Wellcome Trust for up to 4 years and will be based in the Dept of Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics, Oxford OX1 3QX.

The successful applicant will have a higher degree (PhD/DPhil) or equivalent in a relevant area of research (e.g. neuroscience) and previous experience in animal (mouse) work and in cellular and molecular techniques in the study of brain development (histology, organotypic cultures, in vivo and in vitro electroporation). Candidates should demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with others, particularly with regard to the presentation of scientific data and the training of others in the lab and be able to work both independently and as part of a research team. An ability to contribute significant intellectual input to the progress and direction of the research project and to take the lead in some areas is also essential. Work experience in rodent brain development would be an advantage.

Further particulars and details of how to apply are available at https://www.recruit.ox.ac.uk/pls/hrisliverecruit/erq_jobspec_version_4.jobspec?p_id=101437 . Closing date for applications is noon on Tuesday 6 December.
