Job Description

A postdoctoral position in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease, School of Medicine, at University of Alabama at Birmingham is available immediately. The position involves development and application of multi-scale computational models for the study of complex cardiac mechanical, metabolic and electrophysiological systems. This is a NIH-funded project aimed at understanding the role of oxidative stress induced mitochondrial dysfunction in the development of cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. As an interdisciplinary program, the successful candidate has the opportunities to learn and perform in vitro/in vivo experiments for model validation and hypothesis testing.

Qualifications include PhD in biomedical engineering or other relevant areas of biomedical sciences. The ideal candidates should have strong research background in computer modeling and simulation of biological systems with interests in cardiovascular disease, mitochondrial biology and computational method developments. Previous experience in scientific programming, computational modeling, continuum model (such as Finite Element Method) and parallel computing, and familiarity with UNIX/Linux operating system are highly desirable. Working experience in cardiac electrophysiology and live cell imaging is plus.
