Postdoctoral Researcher in Structural Cell Biology of Chlamydia infection

The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a committed and creative Post-doctoral Research Assistant to join the groups led by Professor Helen Saibil and Dr Richard Hayward carrying out collaborative research into the molecular and cellular mechanisms of Chlamydia infection. This post, funded by the Wellcome Trust, involves the application of electron tomography to study bacteria-host interactions. We are applying a combination of imaging, cell biology and biochemical approaches to examine the cellular and biochemical actions of these intracellular bacteria on their eukaryotic host cells. Birkbeck College, University of London (www.bbk.ac.uk) is a world-class research and teaching institution. The Department of Biological Sciences is a multidisciplinary department formed from the merging of the Schools of Crystallography and Biological and Chemical Sciences (http://www.bbk.ac.uk/biology/). It forms part of the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology: (www.ismb.lon.ac.uk), a centre of excellence jointly with the Department of Structural & Molecular Biology at UCL. The Institute provides a scientific environment hosting world-class biomedical science research.
Applicants should possess a PhD in structural or cell biology, molecular microbiology or a related area, and relevant research publications.

Salary: Academic & Research Grade 7, £33,804 – £38,722 (including London Allowance of £2,934 per annum).

This job is a full-time position, fixed term for three years. The initial salary award will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment may be subject to a probationary period of six months.
