job description
THE BREAKTHROUGH TOBY ROBINS BREAST CANCER RESEARCH CENTRE
AT THE INSTITUTE OF CANCER RESEARCH
AND
THE ROYAL MARSDEN NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
The Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre is the first centre in the UK entirely devoted to breast cancer research. Our goal is to advance research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. We are located in new laboratory space with excellent core facilities and funding. We currently have a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Training Fellow in our Molecular Pathology Team, led by Professor Jorge Reis-Filho.
Post-doctoral Training Fellow, Molecular Pathology Team
We are seeking a highly motivated Post-doctoral Training Fellow to work full time in our Molecular Pathology laboratory, led by Professor Jorge Reis-Filho. The successful applicant will use a combination of massively parallel sequencing and in vitro and in vivo functional genomics approaches to identify ‘driver’ genetic aberrations and therapeutic targets in special histological types of breast cancer, in particular in metaplastic breast cancers.
Applicants are expected to have a PhD and a track record in the area of massively parallel sequencing or functional genomics, demonstrated by publications in one of these fields. Previous experience in functional genomics analysis or the analysis of massively parallel sequencing data (exomes, RNA-seq or complete genomes) is essential. Knowledge of analysis methods and interpretation of microarray-based comparative genomic hybridisation and gene expression profiling are desirable, as are knowledge and experience in conventional molecular pathology methods (e.g. RT-PCR, FISH, CISH, immunohistochemistry).
The appointment will be offered on a fixed term contract for 36 months in the first instance, with a starting salary in the range of £27,536 to £32,665 per annum inclusive, dependent on experience. Informal enquiries are welcome and can be made to Professor Jorge Reis-Filho (jorge.reis-filho@icr.ac.uk). Please note – this address is for enquiries only and CVs must be submitted in line with the instructions below.
To apply please email your CV and covering letter (addressing where you meet the person specification and incl. the names and addresses of two referees), to: recruitment@icr.ac.uk, quoting job reference number C512.
In a separate email, please send your completed equal opportunities monitoring form to the same email address quoting the job reference number above.
Closing date: 25th November 2011
