job description

Summary:

A Research Assistant position in Neural Crest Development is available in Dr Karen Liu’s group at King’s College London. The project is funded by the BBSRC and is a three year project. It brings together genetics, embryology and technology development to study timing of neural crest. The Department is one of the leading centres for Craniofacial Biology worldwide and offers a vibrant research environment in the heart of London.

Details:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate holding a recent PhD with a strong background in developmental biology, molecular or biochemical approaches. The project will develop new chemical tools to regulate protein activity of several Wnt pathway genes

We will then combine genetic mutants and embryological methods in mouse and frog to turn proteins on and off during specific stages of neural crest migration and differentiation. Furthermore, the tools developed will be broadly applicable to other biological processes, such as stem cell development, metastasis, etc. The successful candidate will have expertise in one of the areas above, an excellent track record and will be keen to work in an interdisciplinary team.

Salary:

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications and experience, within the Grade 6 scale, currently £33,193 per annum, inclusive of £2,323 London Allowance, per annum. Benefits include an annual season ticket loan scheme and a final salary superannuation scheme.

Contact Information:

For an informal discussion of the post please contact Karen Liu via email at karen.liu@kcl.ac.uk. To apply please complete a personal details form, provide a current CV, a statement of research interest outlining the reasons why you are interested in the position and the names and contact details of three referees

Further details and application packs are available on the College’s website at www.kcl.ac.uk/jobs, or alternatively by emailing Human Resources at hsrecruit1@kcl.ac.uk. All correspondence should clearly state the job title and reference number G6/NCC/755/11-SC.
