job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to take responsibility for the planning and execution of high quality research on post-transcriptional regulation of inflammatory gene expression under the supervision of Dr Andy Clark. The Medical Research Council UK funded a three year research project to investigate “Control of inflammation via the phosphorylation of tristetraprolin (TTP)”. The current position became vacant when a postdoc working on the project left for personal reasons after two years.

The successful applicant will take advantage of reagents and datasets that were generated during the first two years of the project: identified sites of phosphorylation of TTP; phospho specific antibodies against TTP; recombinant phosphorylation-deficient TTP mutants; databases of TTP interacting proteins; a knock-in mouse strain in which phosphorylation sites of endogenous TTP have been mutated. The appointee will be expected to continue and complete this body of research, and to prepare results for publication.

The project will be carried out at The Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, which will remain located in Hammersmith, London until 2013.

Applicants must have: PhD in a biomedical field of laboratory-based research; capacity to deliver high quality research outputs, as illustrated by at least one first-author paper in a peer-reviewed journal; experience in mammalian tissue culture; and experience in at least two of the following: Western blotting; measurement of mRNA by quantitative RT-PCR; ELISA. Experience of biochemical techniques such as: protein purification; study of protein-protein interactions; protein phosphorylation would be an advantage, along with experience in immunohistochemistry and experience with experimental models of inflammation in vivo.

This is a full-time appointment for 12 months.

The closing date for this position is 12 noon on Friday, 21st October 2011. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV in your application.
